Jax and Raen,
It's been a long, hard road for Veridian and I. We've fought in two wars, battled countless monsters from demons to dragons, crossed swords with a God, and saved the world a time or two. It's been worth it. After five years of not knowing weather we'd be alive the next day or not, we're safe. When I told her I was retiering, and going home, I asked her to come with me. To have a normal life. She agreed. Our house is the biggest one in town, and our farmland is the richest in the area. That's what you get for having more money than you know what to do with, and the High Priest of the Temple of Jerick as one of your best friends though. We've brought a little excitment back to this sleepy little town... more then it's seen in sixteen years, since it was destroyed by gnolls. We're only a day's ride from my family, and they couldn't be happier with Veridian. She's really mellowed out since we've been out here, even though it's only been a few months. Aunt Amara is already bugging me about children, and Veridian seems to find that quite funny. She tells me we need to get married soon, because children might not be that far off on the horizen. Our lives are simple and happy now. Only one small incident has risen since we came here. A young man came calling, and challenged me to a duel. Seems he'd heard I was suposed to be some great warrior. I let Veridian kick his ass good before I stopped her. After I patched him up and gave him dinner, I sat him down and we had a good long talk about what life was about, and what honor meant. I sent him away a better man then he had come to me, and that makes me feel... good about myself. That I can change lives now with words rather than with my sword. Aeric's Wrath still hangs about the mantal though, just in case I ever DO need it. Hopefull, someday, I can see my own son with that sword in his hands, bringing a piece of his old man with him into the next generation. I'd like to be remembered not only for what I've done, but for who I am as well. Then again, I guess that's the dream of every old mercinary that's ever walked the face of this world. I hope the two of you are doing as well as we are, and wish you all the best.
I remain, as always, your loyal friend and companion,
Sir Aeric of Dhoesone, Knight of Gideon |
