A Quest Begins
Pressed into a kings service.
I had heard that there was a man named Corennias who had named himself King of Agrathea. Apparently he was trying to bring order to these wild lands in his own fashion. I was curious about this so called kings true intentions and decided to see for myself.

I came into sight of the so called capital in the early morning, and I have to say it wasnt much to look at from a distance. I was coming round a bend in the road when a man stepped out from behind some boulders. He was tall and fully armored bearing a crest I didnt recognize but could only guess to belong to this new king. The man turned out to be Captain Grey of the City Guard. He didnt let me get much of a word in and informed me the king had a need of me. I considered trying to talk my way out of it but decided this would be the easiest way to get an understanding of this new king.

Grey escorted me through the city streets…I use the term city very loosely. Dirt and mud paths snaked through dilapidated buildings filled with all sorts of unsavory types. This may have been an attempt at peace but I wonder if it just becoming a waypoint for the brutes of the lands. The kings home was an old building that looked to have been built long before but restored to a usable residence. Once inside I expected to meet the king and find what use he could have for this simple bard. I was annoyed when I learned I was to wait. I passed the time standing against the wall observing everything around me. Another traveler was there, a dark fellow of few words. He gave off the obvious statement of wishing nothing to do with anyone here so I left him alone.

A few hours passed and I was getting bored. I doubted it would be very hard to use magic to slip out of here but then I would lose the opportunity to get close to the king. Luckily for me more travelers arrived. First came a nearly naked man carrying an elaborate sword the nearly hummed with magic. Next came a small group. They were a strange group and obviously didnt belong around here. A ragged little gnome, a eccentric goblin, a nine foot fellow who looked to have stone like skin, and a bald human. Once we were all together the king was announced.

To make a long story a little shorter, the king basically press ganged us in to hunting down a rebel mage who had been attacking his men for a while now. He promised us treasure but I am not so sure if he really expects to see any of us ever again. I agreed because learning who a mans enemies are gives you a sense of who the man is. In short after a little discussion we all agreed to go and even Captain Grey would be coming with us.

We left the next morning keeping to the woods. I do not know if I will carry out the kings wishes and eliminate the mage or not. I do not yet know who is in the right. I guess I will just have to judge when I meet the mage.
