Rain Of Obsidian |
Conjures a hail of jagged shards of obsidian which pelt and cut every creature in its area of effect. |
Conjuration (Creation) [Earth] Level: Drd 4, Sor/Wiz 3 Components: V, S, M Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Long (400 ft. + 40ft / level) Area: 10-ft.-radius spread Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Reflex Half Spell Resistance: Yes
The spell conjures a hail of jagged shards of obsidian which pelt and cut every creature in its area of effect, dealing 1d4 points of magical slashing damage per caster level to a maximum of 15d4. Additionally, the area affected by this spell is now covered with sharp, jagged pirces of obsidian. Every 5 foot square in the area is now hazardous to cross as though they were filled with caltrops (see page 107 of the players handbook v3.0). The obsidian shards act as caltrops in every way.
The shards left behind by this spell are not considered magical and cannot penetrate damage reduction. Thus, a creature with damage reduction can ignore these obsidian shards and move through the effected area without penalty. Additionally, druids and creatures with the Woodland Stride ability can walk freely through the zone affected by this spell without suffering from the caltrop effect.
Sonic spells such as shatter can be used to automatically clear an area of shards.
Once a creature has passed through a five foot square trapped by this spell, that five foot area is no longer dangerous to pass through.
The material component of this spell is a shard of obsidian worth at least 10 gp which is cast into the air during casting.
